This is a 50-minute virtual experience where you listen or watch a story together and then are placed in breakout rooms for dialogue and discussion. How does the context of queerness influence how we interpret familial structures? Regardless of our color, creed, or orientation, the concept of family is something that unites us all. Sara Shaw’s Tooth and Nail (SXSW 2018) tells the story of a sister who strikes a bargain with her terminally ill brother; if he agrees to let her use his sperm to potentially have a child with her partner, she’ll come out to her family that night. How does one balance the grief of loss and the optimism in new life? Together, let’s discuss how the idea of family is in constant evolution.
